Send a WhatsApp campaign to your SMS list ✉️
Updated over a week ago

If you've read our article on How to get a WhatsApp opt-in from your SMS subscribers list ↗️ and are ready to launch a WhatsApp campaign, you'll find all the necessary information right here.

Who Should Receive the Campaign?

You have the option to target your entire SMS subscriber base or to select a segment of your most valuable customers—those who have made frequent purchases or have recently engaged with your brand.

🧠 Remember, while your contacts have opted in for SMS communications, they haven't done so for WhatsApp messages yet. Given the subtle differences between the two channels, it's crucial to approach this campaign gently and avoid overly promotional content. Our primary goal is to secure opt-ins.

How-to Guide

Accessing your subscriber list:

To initiate a WhatsApp campaign, you first need access to your SMS subscriber list, typically managed in platforms like Klaviyo.

Here are three options depending on your list source:

  • Klaviyo: Connect your Klaviyo Account in the Settings >> Integrations.

  • Shopify: Synchronise your list in Shopify and connect your Account in the Settings >> Integrations. Once connected, you can select your subscriber list when setting up the campaign.

  • Other: In case you already have a WhatsApp subscribers list somewhere else, reach out to the Kiosk team so the import can be done manually.

After connecting the right integration, create a new campaign. During the first step, you'll be able to choose your subscriber list. Ensure you also include individuals who have not yet opted in:

For later communications you won't need this option as you'll simply use your established WhatsApp subscriber list!

Crafting the campaign

Unleash your creativity by drawing inspiration from our Use Case Explorer or in-app templates.

Create a new campaign and select the option Interactive as you'll want to add several steps.

We recommend using a media to leverage the potential of WhatsApp and deliver an attractive experience. Also, include a button to allow people to opt-out from communications without having to block your contact.

For information, this is what contacts will see when receiving the first message ever form your brand. The initial message is your brand's first impression, so ensure the content is engaging and the calls to action (CTAs) are clear.

Once you start using the flow builder, you will craft the campaign's content. Here’s an example to guide you 👇

Step 1: The first template

This initial message serves as a template in compliance with Meta's requirements. It's the first communication your contacts will receive. To enhance its impact, we strongly recommend incorporating personalized and branded media. Craft the message to reflect your brand's tone and entice subscribers with incentives for opting in. Use buttons as quick replies—subscribers can easily opt in or out by clicking on them.

Step 2: Interactive buttons to update opt-in status

When a button is clicked, it triggers specific actions. You have the option to add a follow-up step by selecting the ⊕ icon next to the current step. This allows you to either send a subsequent message or, more importantly for our purposes, update the opt-in status. Here’s how to configure this:

Step 3: Confirmation message and reward

After updating the status, you can send a confirmation message. For those who opt-in, consider including a promotional code as a reward. For those who opt-out, a confirmation message is optional but recommended for clarity.

Here is what your first campaign should look like 👇

Step 4: Test and improve

Once you've reached the recap and scheduling tab, test your campaign by scanning the QR code with your phone. Feel free to conduct multiple tests and experiment with various content types to see how they appear in WhatsApp!

Schedule and launch!

Your campaign is all set to be scheduled. Here are the two key factors to consider:

  • Timing: Schedule your campaign during peak engagement hours, such as from 6-7 PM or during lunchtime.

  • Frequency: Since your audience has not yet provided double opt-in consent for WhatsApp messages, prioritize encouraging opt-ins over promotional content. Consider targeting your SMS list to request opt-ins every couple of months.

Conclusion

You're now ready to launch your first campaign and start growing your WhatsApp subscriber list!

Once you've gathered opt-ins, you’ll have the opportunity to engage this list with future campaigns.
